About

History and Foundation

Established in 1994, City Law College, Dimapur came into existence alongside the founding of Nagaland University as a Central University. The college’s inception was driven by a group of committed Naga citizens from Dimapur, representing a variety of backgrounds and professions. At the time, the absence of a government law college in Nagaland left a significant void in legal education. City Law College was founded to address this need, fulfilling the long-standing aspiration of the people for accessible legal studies within the state. The college’s primary objective was to offer the three-year LL.B. degree programme, thereby extending opportunities to those unable to pursue law education outside Nagaland. Shortly after its establishment, the college earned recognition as a premier “Centre of Legal Studies” in the region. Even today, City Law College remains a vital institution, as Nagaland continues to lack a government law college.

Vision and Purpose

The college was founded by seven visionary individuals who aspired to enable students from Nagaland to study law without leaving their home state. Their initiative broadened access to quality legal education for a wider section of society. Since its inception, City Law College has consistently worked to create opportunities and nurture legal professionals dedicated to serving both the state and the nation.
